The irony in this presidential race is that Barack Obama has become the beacon of something different, even though his platform is based on a concept that has let Americans down time after time. What Senator Obama is really asking Americans to do, is to hope - remain passive - for another few years. The appeal of this young candidate is not that he offers something different at all. The appeal of Barack Obama is that he offers something Americans are intimately familiar with - hope.
Tragically, many Americans have learned to believe that they are helpless and hope is all they can do.
