McCain Palin.jpg

Sarah Palin versus the old line feminists?  Is this the issue or is this bitter frustration with the Democratic Party?  Why is anger at the Dems and Obama campaign misdirected at a woman who should be applauded for creating her own life in American society using the rights won by Suffragettes, Women's Lib, ERA activists and Hillary Clinton and her army of followers who were just rejected by that misogynist Party and its sexist nominee?

Is Sarah Palin to be burned at the stake for being a woman Hillary helped shape and inspire?  We know Geraldine Ferraro does not think Palin should be pilloried.

What crime has Sarah Palin committed to be attacked by some of the feminists and Democratic women?  Because she doesn't support abortion rights for all, all the time, any time, no matter what?  Neither do a majority of the young women of America.

Things have changed.

Abortion is now a very selective right, very tightly defined morally by a vast majority of people.  It is no longer the cause of the day.  Roe v Wade has its limits.  If women define social justice in terms of abortion alone, abortion above all else, they will be voting for Obamas forever, male chauvinist pigs, sexist and narcissist, with no women around him as senior advisers, with no women as partners, with no women as pipelines to policy from the people.

Sarah Palin is a VP choice of a man comfortable with maverick concepts, breakthrough connections to and from women.  McCain is signaling to women not just to vote for him and Palin, but to connect with him and guide him and help him move the country forward, to help him make history for women and with women and through women.

I welcome your thoughts and comments and want you to express your ideas about Sarah Palin and the history that it means to have filled the void left by the destruction of Hillary's campaign in the Democratic Party as that campaign expressed hope for a woman leader in the White House.

Hill.jpgHill  and BIll.jpg

Think of the nation and the greater issue of misogyny and sexism and not the lower level issue of abortion rights.  Think of women breaking into the highest ring of leadership, finally.  And then bring your thoughts and your opinion to Hillary Green Mountain where all women are honored, not just a cadre of loyalists.  The issue of Hillary was always for all women in the world, all humanity expressed through the vision and life work of Hillary. It did not pivot on the single issue of abortion, did it?  It pivoted on power, economics, and social justice, rights to be whom and what each woman wanted and needed.

Think of Hillary Green Mountain as a garden of ardent activism for women's rights, and contribute your thoughts about these very important issues and this historic moment in our nation's journey toward its leadership by, for and of women.
PALIN: To serve as vice president beside such a man would be the privilege of a lifetime. And it's fitting that this trust has been given to me 88 years almost to the day after the women of America first gained the right to vote.

(APPLAUSE)

I think -- I think as well today of two other women who came before me in national elections.

I can't begin this great effort without honoring the achievements of Geraldine Ferraro in 1984...

(APPLAUSE)

... and of course Senator Hillary Clinton, who showed such determination and grace in her presidential campaign.

(APPLAUSE)

It was rightly noted in Denver this week that Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America...

(APPLAUSE)

... but it turns out the women of America aren't finished yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all.

(APPLAUSE)

So for my part, the mission is clear: The next 67 days I'm going to take our campaign to every part of our country and our message of reform to every voter of every background in every political party, or no party at all.

PALIN: If you want change in Washington, if you hope for a better America, then we're asking for your vote on the 4th of November.

My fellow Americans, come join our cause.

(APPLAUSE)

Join our cause and help our country to elect a great man the next president of the United States.

And I thank you, and I -- God bless you, I say, and God bless America. Thank you.

The grassroots petition that roared over Denver!
Petition.jpg-705775.jpg

When the Clinton and Obama campaigns announced last week that Senator Clinton's name would be placed into nomination, a group of Clinton delegates cheered for a moment and went right back to work.  With Hillary Clinton's name "officially" on the ballot, the petition signatures were no longer technically needed.  But this group of determined individuals pressed on.

"When we started this effort, it was the ONLY way for us to be able to vote in Denver to represent the people who elected us," said a Clinton delegate from Texas.  "We're proud of what we did.  We're going to see it to the end.  Just like our candidate - we don't quit."

According to DNC rules, a floor nomination petition needs a minimum of 300 signatures from voting delegates to be submitted.  In July, a small but determined group of Clinton delegates and volunteers started reaching out to fellow delegates in true grassroots fashion - one by one - to collect the signatures.  This proved to be slow going since Democratic Party officials would not provide contact lists for delegates.  The 300 Delegate Petition group was born.

#178.jpg-.jpg

After national and international mainstream media attention, petitions started pouring in.  When they received the requisite number of petitions, they once again took a breather and went back to work.  DNC rules state that no more than 600 petitions can be submitted.  They're working on it.

"We've got well over 300 petitions now in hand," explained Sue Castner, a Clinton delegate from Portland, OR.  "Since we never consulted with Senator Clinton's campaign, we don't know if 'the petition that wouldn't die' had anything to do with the two joint campaign announcements made last week.  We will probably never know but it certainly made us feel good."

Signatories include a governor or two, county Democratic party chairs, members of the diplomatic corps, and even some brave Obama delegates.  The names of those who signed the petition will remain a mystery unless Senator Clinton decides to file the petition, in which case, their names will be a part of recorded history.

As a meager reward for those delegates who saw the nomination process as a path to party unity and signed this historic document, a numbered commemorative pin will distinguish them from fellow delegates.  Rest assured, the green pin, featuring the number 300 with a pen, will be THE most coveted pin in Denver.

CONGRESSWOMAN FROM OHIO, ALLY TO HILLARY HAS DIED

Tubbs_Jones.JPG

Stephanie Tubbs Jones represented the heavily Democratic 11th District and chaired the ethics committee in the House. She was the first black woman to serve on the powerful Ways and Means Committee, where she opposed President Bush's tax cuts and his efforts to create personal accounts within Social Security.

Rep. Tubbs Jones was a firm supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton during the primaries.  She was to have been a superdelegate at next week's Democratic National Convention in Denver.

The Clinton family released a statement saying they shared a friendship with Tubbs Jones that "deepened through every trial and challenge."

"Over the course of many years, with many ups and many downs, Stephanie was right by our side -- unwavering, indefatigable," the statement said. "It was that fighting spirit ... that allowed Stephanie to rise from modest beginnings, to succeed in public service, to become a one-woman force for progress in our country."

For the 18 million voters who passionately supported Senator Hillary Clinton the Primary campaign turned on the election of the most experienced candidate and the strongest on core American and Democratic values.  Barack Obama had many opportunities to win these same voters and unify the Party behind his candidacy.  But one issue that defined and divided the Party throughout the entire length of the Primary season and by which he is judged as an abject failure by those Hillary voters is misogyny and sexism.

His campaign had intimate and instant connection with the talking heads, voices, and spokespersons, reporters and commentators on the two "liberal" cable networks--CNN and MSNBC.  Over and over we saw and heard those personages and representatives carry the instant messages right on camera from the Obama campaign through their Blackberries to the live broadcasts.  But never once came a message from the Obama campaign nor the One himself to stomp on the sexism and blatant misogyny expressed against Senator Clinton.

Month after month, night after night, the cant went on, the skewed reports, lopsided comments and vicious notations from men and women that belittled women and womanhood in the guise of vetting Senator Clinton or describing her followers as inadequate to the task of selecting the "correct" candidate--the One.

Spirit of Womanhood.jpg

When the General Election ends in the astounding defeat of Obama by the very same women and voting supporters of Hillary Clinton there is no doubt that the score will have been settled.  The dislike of Obama pivots on his moral failure during the campaign to stand for womanhood, to speak out, to beat down, to suppress his own campaign and his followers on the issue of misogyny and sexism.

Having claimed superior judgment to all living beings on all issues (the keystone to his empty rhetoric on all issues and about all history) it amazes and daunts any sentient being that he and his minions did not see the opportunity to actually act on his superior judgmental powers.  He could have won over half of Hillary's voters with one clear act of moral courage.  He could have unified his Party with one act of manly courage to stand and defend women and defeat the horrors of misogyny.

He could have been the leader the nation hoped for and the candidate they may have flocked to.  Instead, his and his campaign's goal from the getgo was to humiliate and diminish Senator Clinton.  It worked.  But in the process he invigorated the campaign to stop him, to vote NOBAMA, to work with all heart and body and mind and human resources to see to it that he never gains the White House.  Deservedly so, he is the creation of his own failures and weaknesses.  He is the One who was silent and who conversely empowered the Second Sex to destroy his chance to lead the nation and the world.  It is a war with one possible victor and that victory will belong to the Women of America, not Barack Obama.

He came, he saw and he was defeated.  It's about the judgment!

He was the One.

A Movement Is Born: The New Agenda

New Non-Partisan Group Formed To Promote Women's Agenda

August 11, 2008 --On Monday, 30 women from around the country who are leaders of various women's organizations or have worked as community activists came together in Westchester, NY, to found a group called The New Agenda, a non-partisan organization to advance women's issues.

"We will pool our talents and leverage already established 'friends of the family' organizations to launch a grass roots and grass tops effort to register women voters, organize a national 'get out the vote' effort around women's issues," says Amy Siskind. "Our long-term goal is to cultivate and groom women to run for public office at all levels of government - including the presidency," adds Siskind, a former Wall Street executive who is active in Democratic politics and is a founding member of Together4US, which is supporting efforts to put Hillary Clinton's name on the ballot at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

"The first order of business for our group is to persuade candidates for the presidency, Senate and House to incorporate a number of women's rights goals and policies into their platforms," says Siskind. These include:

  • Mandating paid maternity leave;
  • Ensuring that affordable healthcare is available to women and children;
  • Passing the Fair Pay Act in the Senate;
  • Helping women establish and run small businesses;
  • Reducing domestic violence;
  • Allocating 20 percent more party money to female candidates than to male candidates until the number of women elected to Congress is on par with their percentage of the population; and
  • Strengthening FCC regulations to penalize content that denigrates women.

"One women's rights issue conspicuously missing from our list: abortion," Siskind points out, adding, "It's not that The New Agenda doesn't view choice as a central women's issue, it's that Roe v. Wade has been used a single defining issue to hold women voters hostage in the past. There are many other issues that are important and relevant to a broad spectrum of women."

The New Agenda also will look to hold men and women in the public eye accountable when they treat women with disrespect and are dismissive of issues important to them. "Although several names were put on a 'to do' list, Chris Matthews was our unanimous choice as the worst offender on women's issues, therefore the first person on whom we will focus," says Siskind.

Many of the women who attended The New Agenda's first meeting got to know each other as a result working with pro-Hillary groups. Attendees included founding members of such groups as Together4US, Party Unity My Ass (PUMA), IOwnMyVote,  Just Say No Deal and Vote Democracy '08.

"This group is comprised of women who are "gravely concerned about the mistreatment of Hillary Clinton during the primary season, and the passion and emotion that resulted from Hillary's mistreatment brought us together.," says Siskind.

"There was enough brain power in that room to do just about anything. We are looking to help the women of our country, who often have no voice. We are hoping to make life better for women in all walks of life."

The New Agenda has already contacted representatives of the McCain and Obama campaigns to press its concerns.

"While we have had a much better dialogue with the McCain campaign, I believe both sides increasingly understand that the votes of women over the age of 40 will determine this race," says Siskind.
